Churchyard management regulations
St. Michael’s Church
Churchyard management regulations
In order to preserve the dignity of the churchyard and to ease the task of maintaining it, these management regulations have been adopted by the St. Michael’s Parochial Church Council (PCC). These are in addition to the Regulations for churchyards from the Chancellor of the Diocese of Bath & Wells, T J Briden dated November 2011 which are on display in the church porch.
1. The surface of the churchyard shall be kept, as far as possible, level and free of grave mounds. The PCC may level any mound at its discretion at any time more than 12 months after the latest internment in the grave.
2. Wreaths or cut flowers may be laid direct on any grave or in any vase authorised by the Incumbent or by these regulations, but they must be removed by the family afterwards, or the Parochial Church Council may remove them when they appear to be withered.
3. The PCC may, at its discretion and at any time, remove and dispose of any artificial flowers or other items placed in the churchyard.
4. Any power exercisable by the Parochial Church Council under these regulations may be delegated by that Council to a person or persons deputed to care for the day to day upkeep and maintenance of the churchyard.
